What is a Climate Café?

Climate café conversations take place in informal group settings which allow for sharing, listening, and connecting with others who are concerned with climate issues facing the planet. A climate café is a safe, supportive, inclusive, and confidential space where participants can process their emotions and openly share thoughts and feelings about climate change.

There are no guest speakers, no lectures, and no advice given. This ninety-minute facilitated conversation is not meant to serve as a substitute for therapy or to find solutions to climate problems. This is an action-free space which can provide participants with a sense of validation, temporary community, and solidarity for their personal reflections about climate change.

These are reasons you might consider attending a climate café conversation.

  • You are worried or fearful about climate change and how it will impact your life or the lives of your children, family, and community.
  • You are experiencing feelings of depression, anxiety, or helplessness about the future of the planet.
  • You are not sure how to talk about or to whom to talk with about your concerns around the planet.

Climate Cafés can take place in person or via virtual Zoom calls. Most cafés
require registration to limit group size, and some may charge a small fee to
attend.
